Discovering and Using Your Strengths

“Hide not your talents.  They for use were made.  What’s a sundial in the shade?” – Benjamin Franklin

According to Gallup studies, people who can focus on using their strengths every day are three times more likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general.  They are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs.  Recognizing and using your strengths can provide increased self-awareness, improved confidence, effective decision making, better goal setting, enhanced productivity, improved relationships, and stress reduction.

How to Identify Your Strengths

  1. Self-Reflection: Reflect on experiences and achievements to identify patterns that point to your strengths.

  2. Feedback from Others: Seek input from friends, family, colleagues, or mentors to gain insights into your strengths.

  3. Strengths Assessments: Take online assessments like CliftonStrengths or VIA Character Strengths Survey to discover your top strengths.

How to Use Your Strengths

  1. Brainstorm Ideas: Generate ideas on how to apply your strengths in various aspects of your life.

  2. AI Tool Assistance: Utilize AI tools like Chat GPT for personalized suggestions on how to use specific strengths.  Example: “My top strength is Harmony.  What are some ways I can use this talent both at home and at work?”

  3. Consult Assessment Reports: Refer to reports from assessments like CliftonStrengths or VIA Character Strengths for practical tools and action steps.  The StrengthsFinder 2.0 book by Gallup comes with a redeemable code to complete the online strengths assessment and offers helpful tips for using each strength.
